New Year Wardrobe and Style Refresh

New Year Wardrobe and Style Refresh

The New Year is a great time to reset and consider what is important in our lives, including our wardrobes.

Do you try on multiple outfits before going back to the one you started with?

Is your wardrobe a minefield of pieces you’ve forgotten were even there?

Do you even know what your style is anymore?

If you struggle to decide what to wear on a regular basis,  you may find the reasons below are contributing to your problem.

  • Decision fatigue: Having too many clothing options can make it difficult to choose what to wear.  Remove the pieces you aren’t wearing, are uncomfortable, or no longer bring you joy.  Sell, or donate them.  Remove any off-season pieces and only work with the season you are experiencing now.  Removing the outliers will make it easier for you to see the pieces that are working and why.
  • Unorganized wardrobe: A cluttered wardrobe can make it hard to find what you're looking for.  Take some time to order your pieces in colour or styles ie pants with pants, or blues with blues.  Invest in clothes hangers that are all the same and think of your wardrobe as if you were entering your favourite store.
  • Same/Same: If you have multiple pieces of the same thing, your style will become stuck.  Just as buying the same ingredients at the supermarket week on week, you get bored of the food and want to try something different.  The same happens in your wardrobe if you stick to the same brand or stores.  Next time you are shopping challenge yourself to shop at store different to keep your look fresh.
  • The Colour block:  You would like to wear more colour but aren’t sure how.  If you haven’t had a personal colour analysis this is the best investment for getting more out of your wardrobe.  Learning not only the colours that suit you, but intensities of those shades, how to create outfits is well worth it.  You will unlock a whole lot more outfit combos once you have learnt about colour and how to wear it.
  • Clothing anxiety: People with clothing anxiety may have insecurities, be very particular, or feel like they're never quite right.   Knowing how to unlock your personal style and express yourself though your outfits is a very powerful tool.  Having the inside and outside in alignment will increase your confidence and ensure you are a much more intentional shopper.  Don’t be afraid to look different and stand out, show the world who you are.
  • Emotional effects of outfit choices: How you feel in your clothes can impact to how you feel overall.  The colour, the styles you wear and combinations you put together are all telling a story.  Understanding the powerful effects of an outfit can make a big difference to your wellbeing.  Have you ever wondered what to wear to an interview, deliver some bad news, or perhaps hide to the world how you are really feeling.  Your clothes can subconsciously work for you when you know how.
  • I’m unhappy with my body:  Why are we so hard on ourselves?  Stop focusing on the bits you want to hide and look at highlighting your best features.  Learning a few simple styling tricks will give you the confidence to look your best without the need to spend a fortune on a new wardrobe or waiting until you’ve lost that weight you’ve been trying to.
  • Allow yourself time to play: Take some time on a Sunday afternoon to plan your outfits for the week.  Hang them together so you have one less decision to make in the morning.  You will be surprised how much time this saves you each week.
  • Be your own inspiration: Take photos of the outfits you have created from your wardrobe and save them in your phone so you next time you are stuck as to what to wear you have your own Pinterest board to refer too.
