Here are some simple style tips for you to try.
- Know your shape and proportions. Have you ever admired an outfit on someone else, and tried it on for it to look totally different? That’s due to your proportions. Knowing your body shape and how to lengthen or shorten is key to getting a cohesive and more balanced look.
- Know your colours. Colour makes a huge difference to how you look and feel. Knowing your palette makes shopping less overwhelming and makes it easier to create a more versatile wardrobe.
- Make sure your garment is a good fit. Forget the size on the tag. Your garment must fit you in all the right places or it will never look any good and you won’t feel your best.
- Add a belt to highlight shape and add a point of interest. Match this to your bag, shoe, sunglasses to ensure a more classic look, or clash it up and make a statement with a bold coloured one.
- Tuck in your top! Show the world you have a waist. The French Tuck (tuck in the front and leave your shirt out at the back) is the most flattering tuck if you want to cover your bottom.
- Add accessories – a scarf, statement necklace, ear rings, handbag, clutch, a coloured shoe. This will make a huge difference to the finished outfit. Changing your accessories can help you change your look without having to purchase more items.
- Mix texture and patterns. Look for a common theme within the fabrics you are working with. It could be size of the print, tones, accent colours. Stripes and florals are an easy place to begin. This can take a bit of practise but if you are feeling fun and creative it’s a great way to mix and match some of your pieces.
- Add a third layer. By adding a blazer, denim jacket, trench coat or open shirt to something simple (jeans and T-shirt) will finish your look.
